I've just downloaded Windows 7 RC(Release Candidate) on my PC and it took me less than 4 hours to download it. Its ISO image is about 275 MB size. I will try to install it so that I can check myself what's also new on this new Windows 7. If you want to know more information about this new version of Windows, click on the link below and also watch the embedded video.

Dear Nante,
I hope windows7 is as fast as xp.

Dear Rehan,
Speed depends upon the specifications of your PC like speed of your microprocessor, how much RAM do you have on your PC or laptop etc. For Windows 7, the minimum requirements are as follows:
1GHz processor (32- or 64-bit)
1GB of main memory
16GB of available disk space
Support for DX9 graphics with 128MB of memory (for the Aero interface)
A DVD-R/W drive
Unlike Windows XP:
128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features)
•1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available hard disk space*
•Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor
•CD-ROM or DVD drive
•Keyboard and Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
So if you will install same OS on same specs, definitely Windows XP will perform better.
